This was the first movie that affected me in a “you might be a lesbian” kind of way. Not that I knew that then, but there was something about it that made me love it more than a hetero romcom ever had. It’s a by-the-numbers romantic comedy, hitting all the cishet tropes, but with girls. It’s also a “steal someone from an un/happy coupling” romantic comedy, so if that’s not your thing…

I can’t remember when I first saw it, had to have been when it came out, maybe even in a theater? I was… entranced, I remember wanting to watch it again, right away. The performances are lovely, even Piper Perabo’s British accent is pretty good.
It came up again on my quest for lesbian media when Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya’s reminiscing review popped up on Autostraddle a couple of weeks ago, “Is Imagine Me & You Even Good?” I agree with just about everything she says, so go read that.
I had to rent it from Apple to watch it, as it wasn’t streaming anywhere. I don’t regret that. I maybe should have bought it.
It gets four-and-a-half stars because it really is, as my mother would say, “good of type.” It hits all the right notes, it’s comfortable, and doesn’t really set a foot wrong. I love it, and would watch it over and over.
