Ask

You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep.

I found this quote at an opportune time in my life, when I was a little adrift about what I wanted and how to get it. I’d spent my whole life in a state that seemed like sleep, like I was just counting time until I died, somehow grabbing the ring every time it came around. I was discovering what I wanted, but that was not enough, like… without intending to ask for it, knowing that I wanted it did not make a difference. And so, I began asking for what I want. It’s not been a flawless plan, sometimes I have quailed at the prospect of asking, but reading this quote, remembering it, has helped.

Important addendum to this: this quote is categorized under Being in Relationship, and as such, even if the Universe brings you what you really want, you still must ask for it. The people you want, the relationships you want, the friends you want, they deserve to know you want them. I know it’s fucking scary to ask, because that opens up the possibility that they might say no. But you, and they, deserve to know.
